NOTE:  The term "permanent error" in this troubleshooting guide means the job must be cancelled and resent to the printer.

Buffer Full

The printers buffer has been filled.

 

Possible Causes

 

Possible Solutions

 

Busy

An informational message to indicate that the driver is waiting for a response back from the printer due to printer status being requested.

Cancelled

The print job has been cancelled, but is staying in the queue until final job cleanup has been performed.  This may take up to several seconds.

Comm Error

The serial port driver returned an unspecified communications error.

Corrupt Ram

Indicates that the printer memory is corrupted.

Database Error

If the error was from an ODBC database, the message may be followed by

an ODBC error code in parenthesis. This is a permanent error.

The job must be cancelled and resent to the printer.

Go into the label and examine the source of data for each database field

Downloading database

This is an informational message indicating that a dBase database file is currently being downloaded to the printer.

 

Downloading serial file

This is an informational message indicating that a serial file is currently being downloaded to the printer.

Error reading file name

An error occurred reading the file "name"

 

Possible Causes

     database record could not be loaded (this is a permanent error).

 

 

Possible Solutions

Format named may not exist or path may be wrong

ERROR

An unexpected error has occurred. This is a permanent error.

The job must be cancelled and resent to the printer.

 

Possible Causes

     start the print job.

     write to the print job.

      printed page.

     writing the data to disk.

 

Possible Solutions

Reboot and try again

ERROR (n)

A Novexx printer has returned an unknown status number of "n".

 

Possible Solutions

Cancel job, turn printer off and on, try job again.  The two digit error code can be looked up in the Novexx manual.

ERROR n

This is a permanent error.

The job must be cancelled and resent to the printer.

Check paths, check print server configuration.

ERROR (x)

An Apollo printer has returned an unknown status code of "x".

 

Possible Solutions

Cancel job, turn printer off and on, try job again

Excess Fonts

Could appear when using a Zebra printer.  This is a permanent error.

The job must be cancelled and resent to the printer.

 

Possible Causes

Caused when there are too many fonts used that need to be downloaded to the printer; an 'out of memory' error condition.

Possible Solutions

 

Font Error

An error occurred while downloading a font to the printer.  This is a permanent error.

The job must be cancelled and resent to the printer.

 

Possible Solutions

Exit EL, turn printer off and on, try again.  If problem persists, contact the software support department at Tharo Systems.

Font Load

The printer driver is currently downloading a font to the printer. The message may be followed by a percentage indicating the progress of the operation.  Some printers may indicate a COMM ERROR or BUSY message periodically during the Font Load.  This is normal and is caused by the "busy" state of the printer that is being sent to the software.

Frozen

The print job is currently in a frozen state, and will not print until it is "unfrozen".

Graphic Load

The printer driver is currently downloading a graphic to the printer.  The message may be followed by a percentage indicating the progress of the operation.

Head Error

A thermal printer has indicated an unspecified problem with the print head.

Head Up

The print head is up (disengaged and no longer in contact with the media).

Insufficient memory

There is not enough memory available to complete the operation. This could also mean not enough resources. This is a permanent error.

The job must be cancelled and resent to the printer.

 

Possible Causes

     not enough memory to start the print job.

     memory space while spooling the print job.

      while ending a printed page.

      while creating a mirror image of a picture field.

      font being downloaded to a printer.

 

Possible Solutions

Shut down other applications to free memory, free disk space on hard drive

 

Invalid Device

Caused by failure to open a specified port (COM, LPT) in 16-bit.  This is a permanent error.

The job must be cancelled and resent to the printer.

 

Possible Causes

Port may be in use, does not exist or is incorrectly configured.

Possible Solutions

Check the port configuration.

Label Presented

Caused when the label is in the presentation position, Waiting to be taken by the operator.

No Memory Card

When downloading a format to an Apollo printer, no memory card was detected. This is a permanent error.

The job must be cancelled and resent to the printer.

Offline

The printer is currently "offline", either because of a front panel selection, or some other condition.

 

Possible Causes

     the state of the ready status bit.

     indicates that the printer is in an offline condition.

 

Possible Solutions

Check the printer status from the front panel of the printer.

Out of Space

Not enough space to continue processing. This usually means a shortage of disk space, or an excessively cluttered TEMP directory.

 

 

Possible Causes

     while ending a printed page. This is a  permanent error.

 

Possible Solutions

Clean out temp, make sure the is disk space available on hard drive.

Increase the amount of memory in the printer.

 

Paper Out

The printer returned a "paper out" status.

Check paper or label supply.

Picture Error

An error occurred reading in a picture file. This is a permanent error.

The job must be cancelled and resent to the printer.

Possible Solutions

Check picture with another application.  If another application can read it, contact the software support department at Tharo Systems.

Port Unavailable

Unable to start a printer task for the printer associated with the

named port. This usually means the system is out of memory or other

resources (too many threads or processes). In the 16-bit version, can also mean error opening the port.

Shut down other applications which may free desired memory

Printer Paused

The printer has returned a paused message.

 

Possible Causes

The printer is in pause.

Possible Solutions

Take the printer out of pause mode.

Printing

The printer is currently processing a print job.

Ready

The printer is ready to accept a print job.

Ribbon Out

In thermal transfer mode, the printer has run out of ribbon. This could also mean that the ribbon is broken. This is an intervention condition.

StartDoc Err: n

This is specific to UNC printing, where 'n' is the error code.  This is a permanent error.

The job must be cancelled and resent to the printer.

 

Possible Causes

Caused by failure to connect to a network printer.

Possible Solutions

Check path name, check server.

Temp Out of Range

A thermal printer has indicated that the print head temperature has exceeded the allowable range.

 

Possible Solutions

Turn printer off and let it cool.

Unable to Open

Unable to open a device or file. This is a permanent error.

The job must be cancelled and resent to the printer.

 

Possible Causes

 

Possible Solutions

Try to print a test page from the Windows driver.  If the test print fails, contact your administrator.

Unable to Open (error n)

Caused by failure to open a serial or parallel printer, where 'n' is the operating system error code. This is a permanent error.

The job must be cancelled and resent to the printer.

Waiting

The print job is waiting for a printer task to start processing.
