Each time a specific format that accesses a specific database is called up the customer get a message that the index file is invalid and would you like to update. Upon clicking on OK, the re-index is started and a GPF occurs.

The file was corrupted. I am not sure why but it seems that the computer must have lost power with the database file open or someone turned off the computer with the file open.

Have customer step through the file on a record by record basis looking for garbage characters. This was a 518 record datafile and we finally found the garbage at record 515.

Delete the garbage records and compress and re-index.
