"Unable to open" error on Windows95 Network printer

User, trying to communicate to their network printer through Easylabel, receives the 'Unable to open' error message. However, if they go to their DOS version of Easylabel, they can print to this networked printer. The user finds that they can also communicate to the printer through other Window's application programs. Should they try to alter the print path in the Windows control panel from '\\server_name\printer' to 'LPT1:(\\server_name\printer),' they get an 'Invalid Port Selection' error message. In the Win95 printer control panel the only options for port connections are for LPT1, 2 and 3.

Network printer is not being made available to non UNC (Universal Naming Convention) supported software.

To quickly locate a printer on a particular server: 1.Choose 'Run' from the 'Start' button and then enter the server name, (example: \\minnie). If needed, you will be prompted for a password. 2. The Windows Explorer window will then appear so that you can select the network printer you wish to use. Once you have selected the network printer: 3. Go to the 'Properties' option under the 'Printers' pull down menu. 4. Within the Properties menu, click on the Details Tab. 5. On the Details screen click on the 'Capture Printer Port' and select the LPT port you wish to use with this printer. 6. Exit from this screen. Go to the Win95 control panel and the printer setup. 1. Select the network printer needed. Besides the LPT1, 2 and 3 options, the LPTx:(\\server_name\printer) should also be available. 2. Select this 'printer address' option and 'x' the reconnect at logon option.
