Configuring the Sentinel System Driver to use a PCI Parallel Adapter
This document describes how to configure the Sentinel System Driver to work with a PCI parallel port adapter under the Windows 2000 operating system. The Sentinel System Driver SSD5.39.2-p01 can be configured to work with the following PCI Parallel Port adapters:
CyberParallel PCI - Single Fast ECP/EPP Parallel Port
Part Number: JJ-P00112
http://www.siig.com/
Intek21 PCI High-Speed ECP/EPP Parallel Port
Model TK9902
http://www.intek21.com
Both adapters were tested in a Dell Dimension XPS R400 system running Microsoft Windows 2000 v5.00.2195. The built-in parallel port was disabled in the BIOS.
A patched driver is required to operate on a system that doesn't have a built-in parallel port. It can by installed as follows:
Install the Sentinel System Driver as normally.
Copy the sentinel.sys file from SSD5.39.2-p01 to the driver directory and overwrite the sentinel.sys written there by the Sentinel driver installation.
Reboot the PC to use the new driver.
The CyberParallel PCI adapter is the easiest to install because Windows 2000 has the driver built in. The remainder of this document describes the process of configuring the Sentinel System Driver to work with a CyberParallel PCI adapter.
Install the CyberParallel PCI adapter in the system. Windows 2000 will recognize and configure the adapter without user intervention when the system boots. Perform the following steps to determine the resource used by the adapter:
From the Control Panel, double-click the System icon to open the System Properties page.
Click the Hardware tab and then the Device Manager button to open the Device Manager.
Click the + sign next to Ports (COM & LPT) to expand the tree.
Double-click on SIIG CyberParallel PCI Card (LPT1) to open the property sheet for the Cyber PCI adapter.
Click on the Resources tab to see the resources used by the adapter.

The value circled in red in the SIIG CyberParallel PCI Card properties page above is the address of the parallel port. Perform the following steps to configure the Sentinel System Driver to use the port:
Install the Sentinel System Driver.
Start the driver configuration utility, SetupSysDriver.exe. It is usually located at C:\Program Files\Rainbow Technologies\Sentinel System Driver.
Click the "Configure Driver" button as can be seen in the picture below.

The following dialog will be displayed. Click the "Add" button.

The following dialog will be displayed. Enter the I/O address of the PCI parallel port adapter into the "Bus Address" field.

Click the "OK" button and the following dialog will appear:

Click the OK button and the following dialog appears. It shows that a User Created port has been added at address 1088.

Click the Add button to close the dialog and then open the File menu and choose Exit to close the Sentinel System Driver Configuration Utility.
The Sentinel System Driver should now be configured to use the CyberParallel PCI adapter.
